I Am Confident (At Least That’s What I Tell Myself and It Usually Works)

I am confident when my head is full of ideas

But my buzzing brain is channelled into cool tributaries

Running in rivulets gently, thoughts arriving politely

In neat lines

To meet me

I am confident when my eyes are blaring bright

Scintillating and enthralling

Cheeky and flirty

Perhaps at least half the room wants me 😉

I am confident when I can sieve to find the kernels of importance

When noises are filtered and distilled and clear

Pouring easily into my ears

I am confident when my cheeks are bursting with smiles

Not blushes or beamers or riddies

Round like apples, not red like apples

I am confident when my neck feels strong

My shoulder blades are tucked back into their pockets

Posture perfect

I am confident when I am in the sweet spot

Goldilocks

Not too cold and definitely not too hot

I am confident when my clothes are crisp

Just the right fit,

Flamboyant – at least a wee bit!

I am confident when I feel loved and supported

Not just by everyone around me

But by me

Past me for preparing for this moment so well

Present me for thoroughly enjoying the moment

And future me, who’s looking back

Proud as anything, yet again

Because without me pushing myself to do these new things

She’s not living the life she wants to be
