New Music Radar: May 14th – 21st

Olivia Rodrigo – SOUR (debut album)

Breakthrough Disney star Olivia Rodrigo started 2021 with a viral hit, ‘drivers license’. Her follow up singles, ‘deja vu’ and ‘good 4 u’ continued the momentum. SOUR is a blend of mellow retrospective and in-your-face upbeat tempos. Her unique style of alt-pop with bedroom pop undertones is drawing in more fans across different genres and backgrounds. This is one of the strongest debut albums to date for 2021.

Lana Del Rey – ‘Blue Banisters’ | ‘Text Book’  | ‘Wildflower Wildfire’

Lana Del Rey released three new singles from her second 2021 release, Blue Banisters (out July 4th, 2021). This is the perfect trio of songs to showcase the new album. Every song is a story and pure lounge singer vibes.

St. Vincent – Daddy’s Home

Daddy’s Home is St. Vincent’s sixth album release. St. Vincent (Annie Clark) went through a vintage reinvention. There’s an early 1970s vibe to the album. From the music, right to the album cover art, and even her personal styling. This solid thread weaving through all of those elements creates an experience for the listener.

Billie Marten – Flora Fauna

Flora Fauna draws you in immediately. The combo between Billie Marten’s unique vocals and the lush instrumentals is hypnotic. This third album is a stark difference of sound when compared to her first two albums. The vocals are raw and the bass in each song is like a heartbeat. Flora Fauna is what it sounds like when you know your true potential.

fanclubwallet – Hurt Is Boring (debut EP)

Hurt Is Boring is the debut EP from fanclubwallet (Hannah Judge). This bedroom pop album was created while being bedridden for ten months. Hurt Is Boring is a collection of musings that flow song to song. There’s an interesting DIY, yet polished, aesthetic to her music and videos. This simple five track EP is great to listen to on loop while chilling on a summer day.
