Not Today, Fairy Godmother: Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty

It wasn’t quite true
That a fated spindle sent her to sleep.

She slept because she was tired.

Tired of having to smile
Tired of always being nice
Tired of needing to be bikini ready
Tired of watching what she wore
Or didn’t wear
Tired of having less opportunity
Tired of being paid less
Tired of carrying keys in her knuckles
Tired of having to say no

Don’t wake her –
She’s still sleeping.
