You think you are bigger than us, don’t you? You think you’ll defeat us, don’t you? But here is a fact. You won’t. We are stronger than you and we will get through this together.
You can scare our elderly and vulnerable. Lock them away in their homes. But we are stronger than you. We will put rainbows up in our windows for solidarity, we will deliver food to at-risk groups. We will talk to lonely neighbours across the garden fence and we will not let you defeat us. Because we will get through this together.
You can stop us seeing family and friends, but we are stronger than you. We will video call our loved ones, we will talk to them through windows. We will play HouseParty games and do quizzes together. We will watch Netflix and Disney+ together from afar. We will have digital date nights and have birthday parties through Skype, and we will not let you defeat us. Because we will get through this together.
You can drive us insane. Make us scared and make us panic buy. But we will help those panicking, stop them from buying too much, restock the shelves and carry on because you won’t defeat us. We will get through this together.
You can make our heroic NHS and key workers work even harder than they already do. But we will all pull together. We will make face masks from our living rooms and create ventilators out of scuba diving gear. We will clap for our NHS on our doorsteps and we will help them in every way we can. We will donate our time and money to communities, charities and more. We will open our shops an hour early, but we won’t let you defeat us. Because we will get through this together.
Once this is all over, and we feel the sun on our faces on our way to meet up with friends and family, we will feel closer than ever. You tried to keep us apart, but you brought us together. Once the streets are filled with laughter and joy once more, and restaurants are bustling and parks are full of picnics we will think back to this time, when we all were made stronger. We will have defeated you, because we got through this together.
Staying positive and hopeful,
